앤티크 그로탈리에 화분
ambiant19세기 말부터 20세기 전반 무렵까지 풀리아주 그로탈리에 주변에서 사용되던 보존 용기입니다.
그로탈리에의 도기 문화에서 robba bianca라고 불리는 계보에 속하며, 흰색에서 아이보리색의 주석 유약을 입힌 일상용 그릇입니다.
야채 오일 절임이나 식초 절임, 생선 염장 등 일상 식자재를 보존하기 위해 사용되었던 것으로 생각됩니다.
그로탈리에를 중심으로 한 풀리아의 오래된 민간 도자기에는 이처럼 장식이 거의 없는 그릇도 많이 볼 수 있습니다.
그 대신, 소성 과정에서 생긴 뒤틀림이나 얼룩, 유약의 농담이 그대로 그릇의 표정이 됩니다.
흰색이라고 해도 균일한 흰색이 아니라, 유백색, 아이보리색, 그리고 흙색이 약간 섞인 듯한 부드러운 유약의 질감입니다.
예전에 그로탈리에 주변에서 채취되던 도토는 큰 그릇을 성형하는 데 적합한 점성을 가지고 있었지만, 미세한 불순물도 포함하고 있었습니다.
그 흙의 거친 질감과 소성의 흔들림이 유약의 얼룩이나 미세한 뒤틀림으로 나타나, 너무 정돈되지 않은, 민간 도자기다운 분위기로 이어집니다.
화병이나 수저통으로 사용하거나, 아니면 그냥 선반에 두기만 해도 남부 이탈리아 일상 도자기다운 소박하고 따뜻한 존재감을 보여줍니다.

Robba Bianca
"Robba bianca," meaning "white things" in Italian, is a significant category in the ceramic history of Grottaglie, Puglia, in Southern Italy. It symbolizes the technological maturity and refinement of lifestyle culture since the late 16th century.
Its foundation lies in a production system connected to the Majolica technique, which involves applying an opaque white glaze containing tin oxide (tin-glaze) and completing the piece through two firings. However, unlike the ornate Majolica known for its painted decorations, Robba Bianca suppresses decorativeness, positioning itself as a regional and practical evolution that finds value in the form of the vessel itself and the texture of the white glaze.
The beauty of this style lies in the contrast between the strong red earth (terra rossa) nurtured by the Puglia land and the soft white glaze that embraces it.
