칼라브리아 또는 바실리카타 주변의 민속 도자기로 보이는 물이나 와인을 휴대하기 위한 병입니다.
밭일이나 이동 시에 가지고 다니기 위한 실용적인 물통이었을 것으로 생각됩니다.
다공성 토기 몸통은 내부 수분을 약간 외부로 통과시켜, 증발 시 발생하는 기화열로 인해 내부 액체를 시원하게 유지하는 역할을 했을 것으로 추정됩니다.
지중해 지역의 건조한 더위에 부응하는 소박하고 합리적인 구조입니다.
꼬임을 가미한 손잡이에서는 실용 본위의 기형 속에서도 소박한 장식성이 느껴집니다.
손으로 깎은 작은 나무 마개의 소박한 표정도 이 그릇의 모습에 잘 어울립니다.
