Conosciuto localmente come “Bubulo”, al plurale “Bubuli”, è un elemento architettonico in terracotta tradizionalmente utilizzato nell’architettura pugliese.
Veniva impiegato soprattutto come elemento costruttivo nelle volte, contribuendo ad alleggerire la struttura rispetto alla pietra o al tufo; l’aria racchiusa al suo interno svolgeva inoltre una funzione isolante.
