The two distinctive handles, common in Puglia and Calabria since the 1800s, were used as wine and olive oil containers.
Unlike the larger size, which was used for storage and preservation, this more accessible piece, like the French 'Gargoulette', may have been used as a carrier for field work.
The black mixed with the white skin may be an artifact of the potter, or a random decoration.
I would like to look at it as it is, as a simple object with a Mediterranean feel.
