高台を備えた端正なフォルムと、柔らかなマーブル模様が特徴的なこの器は、香料や塩、あるいは乾燥薬草などを保存するために用いられていたと考えられます。
その形状と素朴ながら洗練された意匠からは、民間の生活用品でありながら、修道院などでも用いられた可能性のある中庸的な品格が感じられます。
