From the apotropaic mask ceramics of Seminara to the sgraffito technique of Squillace, each area has preserved its own distinctive methods and designs. Unlike the refined white-glazed pottery of Puglia, Calabrian ceramics are characterized by their earthy power and an ornamental quality that borders on the devotional.
