2022.11 France #6

2022.November buying diary #6

I was feeling unwell yesterday, so I gave up on the planned trade fair and took it easy and rested.

And today is my last purchase in the south of France.

The sunrise was beautiful

I'll wait a while until the doors open

The dog looks cold too

Here, I was able to buy various things I liked other than pottery.

We packed the car full and left the venue.

Today I'm going to go home, pack the things I bought, clean the room I've been staying in for the past two weeks, and then go to bed.

A photo tour of Southern France

Moustiers-Sainte-Marie

Moustiers

Verdon Regional Natural Park, close to Moustiers Sainte-Marie

Looking out at the bare rocks of the mountains, I recall an article I read somewhere a long time ago.

The reason why there are few large trees in France is because the ancient Romans cut down all the trees for development, so trees could no longer grow.

I wonder if that's true...

The spectacular Verdon Gorge

The emerald blue Verdon River was so beautiful that I was simply struck by the majesty of nature.

My beloved Renault car is being overworked

On the right, you can see the Alpilles Mountains, which are also designated as a natural park.

The village of Les-Beax-de-Provence, which seems to be integrated into the cliffs of the Alpilles Mountains

The castle overlooks the plain of Crau and the Camargue Natural Park to the south.

On days when we didn't have any purchases, we went to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse.

Fontaine de Vaucluse is famous for being the village with the most abundant water spring in Europe, known as the "Vaucluse Spring".

The water level was low when we visited.

It is the source of the Sorgue River, which flows through L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, and eventually connects to the Rhône River.

Young man looking at the fountain

And above all, the color of this river!!!

The contrast between the vibrant green of the aquatic plants and moss on the riverbed and the rich natural colors that surround it is truly stunning and beautiful.

Stroll along the river

Climb up to the castle ruins that can be seen from the village

It was off-season so it was quiet and not very busy, but it was a beautiful place.

I would like to visit again

We also visited Seguret, where the medieval townscape still remains.

This cobblestone

I'm excited.

The narrow stone-paved alley slopes, and the walls create shade for a cool, refreshing feeling.

It looks like it would be comfortable even in summer.

The name of this village, which was once a fortified fortress, comes from

It is said to come from the Provencal word 'Ségur' (safety).

The view from the village is also spectacular.

Cat

Zun zun zun, where are you going?

This is Lourmarin, beloved by literary greats.

Lourmarin Castle is considered a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture

The receptionist was not there and I couldn't enter the castle...

The town was calm and the atmosphere was very sunny.

And Arles, famous for its Roman ruins and the place where Van Gogh spent his time.

Due to time constraints, I was unable to visit the main tourist spots, but I feel like I was able to experience the source of the rich colors of Van Gogh and Gauguin.

I learned after returning to Japan that the Lee Ufan Museum had opened in Arles.

A museum renovated from a 16th century mansion by Tadao Ando

I regret not knowing about it and not being able to go.

Next time, I'd definitely like to go!

This review has gotten long, so I'll end it here.

Tomorrow we leave the south of France and head north.
