*Volterra has been known for its alabaster sculptures since ancient times, and in the 19th and 20th centuries it was a major producer of fruit, statues and interior accessories.
These decorative fruits are made from alabaster, a traditional craft from Tuscany, Italy. The delicately carved stone surface is hand-painted to express freshness. In the first half of the 20th century, they were widely loved as interior decorations in upper-class homes and as tourist souvenirs.
