Antique Hand Warmer 1800s
ambiantAn antique object from Puglia, Southern Italy. A one-of-a-kind ceramic piece with the marks of age and former use.
The antique dealer told me it was once used as a hand warmer, filled with hot water or warm wine during winter.
Yet its rustic form and the glaze applied only around the mouth also suggest it may have served as a portable small vessel.
In any case, it is a simply made folk ceramic, rooted in the everyday life of southern Italy.
