French Cork Oak Bowl

CountryFrance
No.AN-5087

A cork bowl found in the south of France.
Cork oak grows naturally along the Mediterranean coast and has been widely used since the time of ancient Rome.
Taking advantage of its light weight, moisture resistance, and rot-resistant properties, it is thought to have been used to hold bread, fruit, cheese, and nuts, as well as to serve fish dishes such as bouillabaisse in Provençal restaurants.

If you walk through the markets of southern France, you will occasionally come across these cork oak items.
Although simple, each one has its own unique character, making it one of those items that you just can't help but reach for.
I was particularly drawn to this piece for its three-dimensional, dynamic shape, and felt a strong sense of folk art and the warmth that can only be achieved with natural materials.

This piece can be used as tableware to serve fruit, bread, etc., and it also makes a striking presence when used as an object in a space.
